about

'This one is about a guy who killed his girlfriend when he was intoxicated. It’s one of the few songs written in a ‘you’-form instead of an ‘I’-form. That is because I think alcohol is being made to have fun with, and not to kill or even only injure others on. The song starts off with an acoustic solo, followed by a dramatic vocal part which tells of the bloody events of the night before, leading to the conclusion in the chorus. The middle section is inspired by or maybe stolen from the Lynyrd Skynyrd song Simple Man. In 2006 I discovered a rehearsal session from Summer 1998 where I play this riff and sing some words over it from the song Free Bird. So I knew that it was actually from Lynyrd Skynyrd, although I sung the Free Bird lyrics instead of those of Simple Man. To Murder! was first performed at a Ramirez concert on December 31, 1999, but afterwards rarely has been done live -- although it was on the set list on February 7 and October 30, 2004.'

lyrics

Well you got up in the morning
And you found her in a pool of blood
You couldn't remember what happened last night
After that 10th bottle of Scotch

Chorus:
To murder when you're loaded is no fun
You can't recall how you took
The life of your beloved one
The whole place is a bloody mess
But you were much too drunk
To enjoy the time you had
